SPL Powerlines has introduced the Doosan Ultimate 270 Teleboom crane, a revolutionary addition to their fleet, on the UK's latest railway electrification projects, including the Midland Main Line and East Kilbride. This high-capacity crane can be set up in just 60 seconds and lifts up to 12,000 kg at 17 meters with full 360-degree rotation.
The crane's ability to place structures in or around the track without the need for tandem lifting or additional machinery is a game changer. Its design, developed by G.O.S Tool & Engineering Services Ltd, includes a 15.5-meter telescopic boom and outriggers that stabilise beyond sleeper ends, ensuring no sleeper loading concerns.
The first crane has already been deployed on the Midland Main Line and is currently operational on the East Kilbride electrification scheme. SPL Powerlines' Plant Operations Manager, Liam Ledger, highlights the crane's role in lifting steel structures and its suitability for ALO (Adjacent Line Opening) operations. The environmental benefits, combined with cost savings from owning rather than leasing the equipment, make this crane a significant asset for the company and the industry.
By integrating this innovative crane into their operations, SPL Powerlines is setting new standards in efficiency and safety for railway electrification projects.
