Bowmer & Kirkland (B&K) has embraced sustainable innovation with the debut of the Revolution Battery on a Nottingham construction site. This energy storage system is being used to power two tower cranes, replacing the need for traditional diesel generators. With significant fuel and carbon savings, this breakthrough marks a step towards greener construction practices.
Typically, tower cranes rely on a 200kVA diesel generator for operation. However, the Revolution Battery enables these cranes to function using just a 32A mains connection. On the Bowmer & Kirkland site, the battery powers a Jaso J118pa and a Jaso J138A tower crane, demonstrating its ability to handle heavy-duty construction needs with minimal environmental impact.
This initiative is part of Falcon Tower Cranes' commitment to sustainability. After purchasing the Revolution Battery in September, the company quickly deployed it at Bowmer & Kirkland’s site. By showcasing its effectiveness, the project highlights the potential for such technology to revolutionise energy use across the construction industry.
The construction sector is one of the largest contributors to global CO2 emissions, making innovations like the Revolution Battery critical. Transitioning to cleaner energy solutions not only benefits the environment but also aligns with government goals for reducing carbon footprints.
