New Training Tool Enhances Metro Level Crossing Safety Awareness

New Training Tool Enhances Metro Level Crossing Safety Awareness

Nexus, the public body responsible for the Tyne and Wear Metro, has introduced an innovative training tool to promote level crossing safety. This interactive mock-up, installed at the SafetyWorks teaching centre in Newcastle, replicates Metro level crossings complete with red stop lights and warning tones. It aims to educate thousands of children about the dangers of misusing level crossings. The immersive facility also includes a Metro station, tracks, ticket machines, platforms, and a life-sized Metro train front, enhancing the realism of the training experience.

SafetyWorks is a multi-agency training facility utilised by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Police, Nexus, and local authorities to conduct safety awareness days for young people. This collaboration ensures comprehensive safety education, reinforcing the importance of safe practices around Metro level crossings.

By engaging children in realistic scenarios, Nexus hopes to instill a deep understanding of railway safety, reducing accidents and promoting safe behaviors around level crossings. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to community safety and education.
