Network Rail Inspires Next Generation of Women in Rail

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Network Rail hosted a 'morning myth-buster' event at the Mount School in York. This initiative aimed to inspire young female students and highlight the diverse opportunities available in the rail industry, challenging gender stereotypes.

The event featured discussions on apprenticeship options and STEM careers, alongside an interactive bridge-building activity. Students faced real-world project challenges, including budget constraints, supply chain issues, and environmental concerns. This hands-on experience allowed them to explore various roles such as project manager, environmental manager, and more, sparking interest in rail-related careers.

Network Rail colleagues shared personal stories and answered questions, emphasising that the rail industry is inclusive and welcoming to all. The event's success has led to plans for expansion across Yorkshire and other regions, aiming to continue inspiring the next generation of women in rail.
