New Round of Live Labs Road Trials Begins

New Round of Live Labs Road Trials Begins

ADEPT (Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning & Transport) has launched Live Labs 2: Decarbonising Local Roads in the UK, a £30m program funded by the Department for Transport (DfT). This three-year initiative aims to decarbonise the local highway network through seven projects under four themes. The first trials are taking place in the West Midlands and North Lanarkshire, focusing on innovative low-carbon road materials and repair solutions. Local authorities are collaborating with commercial and academic partners to drive these trials.

Key Themes and Trials:

  1. Centre of Excellence for Decarbonising Roads: Focuses on road material innovations and knowledge sharing.
  2. Collaborative Efforts: North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) and Transport for the West Midlands (TfWM) work with companies like Amey and Colas.
  3. Innovative Solutions: Trials include a range of repair products with high potential for reducing carbon emissions.

The Live Labs 2 initiative aims to provide scalable solutions for decarbonising local roads, contributing to the UK's broader climate goals.
