New Construction Recycling Centre Opens in Oxfordshire

Heidelberg Materials has inaugurated a state-of-the-art construction waste recycling facility at its Appleford depot in Oxfordshire. This facility will now offer recycled materials alongside primary aggregate, ready-mixed concrete, and asphalt. The opening of this centre marks a significant step in Heidelberg’s commitment to sustainability and circular economy practices.

Heidelberg Materials UK, formerly known as Hanson UK, is planning to establish more recycling centres at various sites throughout the year. The company has also created a dedicated division for recycled materials, reflecting its strategic focus on sustainability.

James Whitelaw, Recycling Managing Director at Heidelberg Materials UK, emphasised the importance of recycling and reducing the use of primary raw materials in achieving net zero goals. The new recycling hubs are designed to provide sustainable products to customers, promoting building more with less.

This new initiative is part of Heidelberg Materials' broader recycling business line, which includes the rebranded Manchester-based A1 Services, acquired in 2022. By expanding its recycling capabilities, Heidelberg aims to lead the industry in sustainable construction practices.

The new recycling centre is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing construction waste and supporting the industry’s shift towards more environmentally friendly practices.
